Saturday.. Obviously a 6:30am start. We had breakfast and pottered around a bit, then headed in to Liverpool for some stuff. Penny got a Peppa Pig swim suit, a crocheted... thing... and a David Bowie Aladdin Sane era t-shirt. Melissa got some dresses and stuff, I got lunch. I was looking for some tshirts, or a new pair of shoes and was left sorely disappointed.
We left at about 2pm and Penny chunnered all the way to our next stop : Kid Zone or something equally terrible sounding for cousin Joss's 7th birthday. Penny was in her element. I was in Hell. I climbed up the apparatus with her, and then down the slide, I then kicked a ball about with him. Melissa was wearing a long dress and wasn't as agile as me, so I did the bulk of the parenting while she caught up with her cousins and her aunty. I was dripping with sweat by the time we left, and absolutely knackered. Although, I did win Penny a replica of Peppa Pig's teddy bear, called Teddy from one of those grabby machine things that I thought were unwinnable. She loves it. I'm just glad I won before I spunked £30 into the machine.
We headed home and an exhausted Penny slept for about 20 minutes, then as we arrived home she woke up and saw Leonie. "Oney! Oney!" so we got her out the car and let her out to play. Carl, Leonie's dad, was putting together what I learned to be his firs BBQ. I went inside to get him a beer, coz I'm a good neighbour like that, and once the BBQ was completed it was only reasonable to assume we were going to try it out. I gave Carl all my best hints and tips and me and him headed to (the) ASDA for some more beer, buns and meat and before we knew it.
It was 9pm before we went inside, having had a cracking impromptu party with Lisa, Carl and Leonie and by the time we were finished we were all incredibly tired.
Penny had a quick shower, an even quicker bottle, and it didn't take much for her to fall asleep. Thankfully. I had another beer an joined Melissa in bed for the finale of Hungary's Got Talent and before long we were both asleep.
I woke a few times during the night with indigestion (serves me right) but it was 9am before Penny woke up.
We all got up, breakfasted and then went to (the) ASDA for some essentials for the week and then up to the in laws were I'd resolved to assemble my BBQ. I achieved my goal graciously, and then set about dismantling the old one, covering myself in four years worth of grease and ick in the process. Penny played in the paddling pool with the neighbours kids, who were taking it in turns to throw water balloons at me. I was pleased about this. Honestly.
We came home at about 3:30pm and Penny was exhausted, but the cruel parents we are, we refused to let her sleep. We had some tea, then Penny did, then Melissa went to work and me and Penny got into bed to watch Peppa Pig for a change. She got bored, so we had a bath and then it was time for In The Night Garden, which she watched through half closed eyes.
It was mere seconds in my arms in her room that it took for her to fall asleep, and asleep she is. I wish I was but I've got a handful of chores to catch up on from the weekend, and then it's time for a beer. Coz why not?
Back to the grind tomorrow. I love Mondays.
