Day 798

Bank Holiday Monday! And what a glorious one at that.

It was a bright and early start, a litte after 7am. Melissa and Penny lay in bed and I made breakfast then we all got ready and were uncharacteristically early so we played in the street, waiting for my mum and dad to arrive for a belated birthday day out for my wonderful mother.

The weather was definitely on our side and so we headed to Windmill Farm (cracking day out in Burscough for any family with kids. A weird day out for a single man in a trenchcoat). Penny admired all the animals from afar while my mum got stuck in feeding all sorts of things like alpacas (evil looking) and goats (evil looking, but not as evil as the alpacas). We had a light lunch and then headed up to Melissa's mum and dads for a cuppa and some sunshine.

The sun came in to its own this afternoon and it was absolutely wonderful weather to put your back out pumping up a small childs bouncy castle, or, you know, carry a giant water lilly 400 metres up hill. It was perfectly appropriate to do both of those things.

I wasn't planning on having a drink, but I went to escort Penny from the garage and there was a nice cold bottle of beer winking at my from the counter. It would have been rude not to.

My mum and dad seemed to have a great day, Penny put on a show for them, doing all her impressions of stuff, like sheep, cows, horses, fish, trains and cartoon bandit foxes. Happy birthday mum, hope you had a nice time!

We headed home later on, before the barbecue next door, because Melissa had foolishly chosen to work this evening, not anticipating weather in excess of 20 degrees and cloudless skies.

She's currently sweating her arse off at work, and I'm sat in my pants contemplating my next beer. Penny's well asleep, having once again only had 20 minutes all day.

Back to the grind tomorrow. Yay.
