After a restless night from Penny, boxing day had quite a late start, which sort of put is behind schedule for the rest of the day.
We ended up driving to Wigan to buy a kitchen from (the) ASDA that they didn't have, then back to the M6 via the drive thru Starbucks. Yes, that's right. Then, in the pouring rain we drove to my mum and dads to eat them out of house and home.
Penny's basically back to normal, and demonstrated this by eating about a million Pringles, and a thousand cocktail sausages. She had a good sleep on the way there and was on her best behaviour.
Of course, that changed at bed time. We put her down a little earlier than normal due to her being knackered, and she went to sleep almost straight away. We got about 90 minutes out of her before she woke up screaming, and we couldn't get her to go back to sleep and stay that way without Melissa snuggling her. So, long story short, Melissa had a very early night and I ended up "sleeping" in yet another spare bed.
Melissa had a roughish night as she was accommodating a wriggly infant, and I had a hideous night due to consuming my own body weight in cheese before bed, and then waking up with indigestion at 4am.
It was after 8am before Penny awoke.
We went downstairs, had breakfast, tea and toast, then Skyp'd my brother and his fiancée in New Zealand while Penny opened the Christmas present off them. More shoes. Very expensive, leather shoes. Very, very nice. Penny seemed to like them and ran off round the kitchen in them.
We left at about 10:30am, got some petrol, popped in to see Hannah and baby Dylan and drop off a Christmas present, then we came home. Penny had a sleep on the way, about 45 minutes worth.
After a bit of a play I took her out in her pram so Melissa could tidy round and re-locate some of Penny's new toys, and I returned an hour later, Penny having not slept at all. We fought with her, trying to get her to sleep again for half an hour, but she just wanted to play. So play we did.
By 5:30am she was being super whingey so she's currently in the bath. Then it's bottle and bed, and then I'm going to have a beer or two, or maybe a glass of my Christmas whisky, before an early night in prep for work (yes, work) tomorrow.
Hope you're all having a great Christmassy time so far, and a huge thank you to my mum and dad for having us this weekend!
