Day 187

Saturday apparently. Slept well, all things considered. Trouble is when Penny wakes for her feed, she's reluctant to go back to sleep. Worse things have happened though.

I was woken by Melissa at 8:38am who told me her dad would be round to pick up the car keys at any minute. She was right. He was.

Once he'd gone I felt duty bound to prepare some teas and coffees for Melissa and me and shortly afterwards great uncle Kenny arrived to grout the floor (not a euphemism). He suggested we'd need more grout, adhesive and probably tiles so off I went to Wigan, to Tile Giant, where I procured the items I've just mentioned. Got back to find great uncle Kenny was almost finished and he's done a lovely job. I rewarded him with a bacon butty. He's coming back next weekend to do all the cosmetic stuff.

We whizzed up the in laws then to shower before our deluge of guests arrived and sure enough, a little after 2:30pm grandma, granddad, great aunty Anne and great uncle Dennis arrived.

This is a photo of great uncle Dennis trying to figure out how to use great aunty Anne's camera phone, while grandma tries to avoid ruining the photo. Penny's in it too. And so's the balloon uncle David and aunty Jenni sent... The last balloon standing, even.

Great uncle Dennis and granddad set to work after lashings of tea and cake, fitting my shower curtain rail and shower head riser. It's all in place and looking excellent. Once the curtain I'm picking up tomorrow is in place I'll do some photos. I know you're dying to see it. They did a great job and I'm really impressed and pleased. Thanks guys.

Just before they left Matt and Nic turned with cake, and baby Henry, in that order. We had a good chat and compared war stories. Matt encouraged me to drink a beer. I didn't take much persuading.

Once they'd left I cooked tea. I did spicy wedges with chicken in barbecue sauce and some lovely veg for iron and protein. We ate the cakes for afters. While tea was cooking I took these pictures:

Joker watches over us all...
Melissa insisted on watching Red or Black with Ant and Dec which annoyed me, but I persevered with it for about 45 minutes, at which point I realised it was killing my brain cells and came up here to write this, and listen to some music.

It's X Factor tonight. I might watch it. I might not. I know if I want to sit in front of the TV at any point I'm going to have to bite the bullet, as X Factor is followed by another 30 minutes of Red or Black. Sigh.

We're having trouble getting finance agreed on the car I mentioned yesterday but I'll keep you up to date.

Tomorrow, shower curtain to be bought, tiles and bath to be washed, then photos.

Awesome.
