Day 178

Tired again. We both slept well, in between feeds. Penny is really getting the hang of the "crying = food" equation.

Anyway, a little after 9am we got up. I sat and watched Penny for about 20 minutes while Mel pottered. Always a pleasure, never a chore. Then I fed her for the first time. It was lovely. I used a bottle, I didn't encourage her to latch on to my nipple. That would have been weird.

Uncle Lawrence arrived a little after 9:30am to start work on boxing in the pipes in the bathroom. He's done a really good job, and we can't wait to get it tiled. After the tiling it's just cosmetic stuff. Toilet roll holders, towel rails, etc.

The midwife, Joan, arrived to weigh Penelope. I don't know if I mentioned this, but the other day, when she was weighed, she was found to have lost 10.5% of her birth weight. 10% is the tolerable limit, so we upped her feeding regime. I'm pleased to announce that she's put on 3ozs and seriously can't get enough milk.

I made bacon butties for us all (not including Penny) at about 1pm, then my mother in law turned up to tackle the conservatory. She did a good job. She's cleaned all the shitty plaster off the plastic work and shined it up nice. She held a ladder while I climbed on the room to see if I could fix the leaks. Obviously having no training or any idea what I was doing, I failed to stop the leaks.

Leaving her in charge of the baby, Melissa and I headed to (the) ASDA for our tea (baked potato, which I under cooked, with cheese, beans and corned beef hash crisps bake) then up to the in laws for showering purposes.

We came home, cooked tea, tidied up a bit and were visited by Lea, Hannah, Stew and John. The boys had a few beers and we all chatted about parenthood and it's weirdness. Then John had a hold of Penny, which encouraged Stew to have a go. Lea is still terrified.

I put Depeche Mode's 'Devotional' DVD for background music, and coz I like it. And so does Penny.

They've all left now. Melissa is in bed, milking herself. I'm going to watch the next episode of The Office and then get into bed, where I'm confident I'm going to boil to death.

Oh, I spoke to my grandparents today. They were fine, granddad was concerned about Penny's middle names, and was relieved she was going to be called Penelope Margaret Veronica Powell. There's no saint Penelope which has apparently caused them some concern, but the compromise was to give her Margaret (Melissa's grandmother's name) and Veronica (my grandmother's name) as middle names. Both good, saintly names. When I told my grandmother she was a little overwhelmed and proclaimed "No one's ever named anyone after me before!". She's lovely, my grandma. We're going to see them with Penny in a few weeks so that'll be nice, for us (really good pork pies and cake) and them (they get to meet their first great granddaughter).

See you tomorrow, which I believe is Friday?

Bye!
