Day 9 - 8th March 2011

After yesterdays blog I went to bed and watched One Born Every Minute with the wife. This programme is terrifying for me in many respects, seeing the blood and viscera, the agonising waits people have to go through, false labour and all that stuff. This weeks show had a moment in it were they were monitoring the baby's heartbeat using a doppler (I believe it's called) and it was slightly erratic. It kept slowing down and speeding up and they suspected the cord might have been wrapped round the babys neck. The widwife had left the room and the couple were silent, just listening. Then, the heartbeat slowed riiiight down and there was one final *thud* and nothing happened. I was on the edge of my seat, horrified for the couple as they sat there not breathing... then about 5 seconds later (it seemed like about a week) the heart kicked back in, the woman went into labour and she squoze out a healthy little boy. The wife missed all this, she was trying to think of her next move on Words With Friends.

Today (technically yesterday as I write this) was pretty good. I had another 12 hour shift in work and once again I broke nothing. We had a meeting in which we discussed the new building they're constructing for us in 2013. Rest assured I asked pertinent an probing questions such as "will we have better coffee?". We will. Score one for me.

I left my phone on my desk while I was in  this meeting and I came back to find a missed call and a text from my wife. The text read : Tree surgeon here taking down that horrible bonzai/conifer for 20 quid x I quickly phoned her and said "what?". Turns out there was a door-to-door tree surgeon in the area (gypo) who was touting for work. We have (had) an unusual shaped conifer in the front garden which is (was) hideous. She haggled with him and he said "I'll get rid for £20". Here's what it looks like now :

Despite initial fears he did a good job and it was a shrewd business decision by the wife.

Headed off then into Burscough to have drinks, food and quizzing with a mate. We went to the pub and they've changed the menu and drinks selection slightly. They now do locally brewed ales from The Burscough Brewing Co which were very quaffable, and the menu has also been expanded. I had the monkfish wrapped in bacon in a ... sauce... on... potatoes?. It was really nice.

Had a few pints and beasted the quiz. We came 4th by half a point and it's probably the best we've ever done. Got a taxi home, got into bed and slept.

Same story again for tomorrow (today) as I'm working 7pm to 7am. I might blog from work, if it's not too busy. Some teasers for tomorrows (todays) blog : ASDA, Pets At Home.

Try not to get too excited.
